Tamarisk Books was created in 2024 by me, Emily Troscianko, as a way to bring two books into existence: a children’s book about nests and treasure and a grown-ups’ book about eating and growing up.
Then a third book came along: another one for children, about strange experiences that happen on the borders of sleep, written by my mother, Sue Blackmore. Wanting to see her book out in the world instead of unfinished on her hard drive made me make her an offer: stop looking for a “proper” (aka boring old big) publisher and publish with Tamarisk Books instead.
She leapt at the offer, and we worked out the technicalities of contracts and things, and I had fun discovering how to do things differently from the academic publishers I’d often published with in the past: how to make things feel more truly and enjoyably collaborative, from back-and-forths with the cover designer to author questionnaires that are actually nice to complete.
If you have ideas for how Tamarisk Books might grow in the future, whether via a book that you’ve written or want to write, via a book that you want to see written by someone else, or in any other way, do reach out via the Contact page.
In the meantime, enjoy surveying what’s already here!
